Ad-Hoc networking?

I'm currently sat in a hotel room with no access to a router so I'm just
realising how annoying it is not to be able to connect to my DS when I'm
developing.  I'm pretty sure Ad-Hoc networking doesn't work, just wondering
if anyone can confirm this.  What would need to be done to get it to work?
