# This script attempts to guess a canonical system name similar to
# config.sub. If it succeeds, it prints the system name on stdout, and
# exits with 0. Otherwise, it exits with 1.
#
# The plan is that this can be called by configure scripts if you
# don't specify an explicit system type (host/target name).
#
# Only a few systems have been added to this list; please add others
# (but try to keep the structure clean).
#
# This is needed to find uname on a Pyramid OSx when run in the BSD universe.

--- NEW FILE: ChangeLog ---
Removed all warnings, etc. during compilation. -Wall added to
viewml/makeinclude to catch this in the future
Added Chris Hawk's patches for qregexp (to fix reference URLs)
and for html.cpp to fix the BIG tag (made it +1 instead of ..
what .. 0?)
Fixed all Redhat 7.1 compilation problems (gcc 2.96)
Redid qarray to not use the STL vector class
April 11, 2001 (Ouch! Long time between updates!)
====================================
A patch provided by Chris Hawks <chrish at syscon-intl.com> to
make the argument parsing much more unix-y and allow a url
to be passed without the -u flag (though for
backward-combatibility, it still works.)
Another patch provided by Chris Hawks <chrish at syscon-intl.com>
providing the following enhacements:
1. Drop-down lists now show the default choice.
2. Radio buttons now look good (using round, instead of diamonds.)
3. Some standard colors added.
4. Removed lots of debug cerrs/couts (Thanks!!)
5. Listboxes now implemented.
6. Using requested font families and colors for buttons, combos,
and listboxes.
7. And probably more that I missed when patching the code.
An addition to keep a reference-counted pixmaps. This was
necessary to allow the proper cleanup of tmp files and freeing
of images (which wasn't happening in all cases.) This greatly
helps stability.
A fix to qstring in the findRev method that was causing invalid
URL parsing in some cases.
Many fixes to the HTTP classes that make everything much more stable.
Basically, everything is now cleaned up properly when a new page is
loaded, even if the previous page hadn't finished. Also, some protection
is added for pending HTTP GETs performing callbacks to HTMLViews which
no longer exist.
QColor was fixed to provide default color initialization.
Addition of a atexit handler that properly cleans up the all the
objects in the event of a violent Microwindows termination (there
is an exit() in the client code if it ever gets a read error.)
Added support for a proxy server through an environment variable,
VIEWML_PROXY. This should be set as follows for a proxy server:
export VIEWML_PROXY=http://www-proxy.foo.com:8080
Of course you should use your own proxy server :-)
November 15th, 2000
====================================
Got rid of the consts, pixmaps, and other general
garbage cluttering up viewml/src/main.cpp. I
added viewml/src/vmlapp.cpp, viewml/src/vmlapp.h,
viewml/src/pixmaps.h and viewml/src/fltk/qconsts.h
Fixed support for the X version of FLTK. This hadn't been
working properly when the new widget re-org happened.
Added a new VMLApp class that does some special event
handling. FLTK doesn't pass FL_RELEASE events through
to children for some reason. I added the same code to
qwidget.cpp for the same reason.
You'll need the newest version of FLNX to make everything
work properly with this version under Microwindows. Until
this is released, just check it out from CVS.
Tabs will now take you between widgets in forms.
November 14th, 2000
====================================
Finished scrollbar support. This now comes from the
KHTMLView class instead of the main UI.
Implemented buttons, combo-boxes, scrollbars,
radio buttons, single and multi-line edits. Some
callbacks are not happening.
Forms are working partially. GETs now do the right
thing, but POSTs don't function (something in the
w3c-www lib)
Massive reorg in the way form widgets are handled. I got
rid of the multiple inheritence and replaced it with
contained widgets in a parent window that doesn't draw.
Fixed a bunch of signal handling problems:
1. Whitespace is now stripped from slot/signal names.
2. initMetaObject is now called automatically when
performing a connect with a given object.
3. Given the above, I got rid of the hacks in the
KDE objects where I called initMetaObject directly.
Added Fl_Window_Resize which is a new FLNX class that
gives an application notice that the window was resized.
This helps when running under a window manager under
Microwindows where it moves and sometimes tries to
resize your windows.
All the windows/widgets/scrollbars are now double buffered.
This helps when drawing as everything is now flicker-free!
November 2nd, 2000
====================================
Added temporary scrollbar support to the main UI.
Many, many bugfixes in the hierarchy of the classes.
Basically, a lot of the multiple inheritance has been
removed to permit better organization.
Most of the segfaults have been fixed. It now seems to
be really stable.
Tons of bugs were fixed with the Microwindows version of
ViewML, most of which were actually changes in FLNX.
Forward, Back, and reload buttons now work. We keep
proper track of the history now.
You can now change the size of the window with the
constants at the top of main.cpp. Resize support will
be added when this is fixed in FLNX.
Changed the derivation of QWidget, QPaintDevice to be
actual FL_Window so children work.
Images for the buttons now work under Microwindows.
Finished Tasks as of Tuesday, August 22nd
====================================
Added small history function to the interface (hit the
space bar to cycle through the history list.) This
helps greatly when debugging (less typing.)
Font metrics with Microwindows now works properly.
However, font selection is still not working properly
under FLTK with Microwindows.
Fixed misc. seg faults when dealing with multiple timers.
This seems to make the thing pretty stable.
Finished implmentation of the background timers that control
the updating of the page when images are loaded. It now
draws everything properly.
src/fltk/qpixmap.cpp now works with images under Microwindows.
Full URL handling seems to be working.
Finished Tasks as of Tuesday, August 1st
====================================
Removed libwww acess from main UI thread, shoving it into
the background with the other network access. This will
fix some misc. SEGFAULTS as well.
Made the first port to Microwindows (Nano-X). This only works
with the upcoming 0.88 final release (coming soon) with
FLTK (flnx)
Better handling for relative URLS (still needs some work)
Background colors for table cells now working properly
Don't have to type "http://" in front of URLS (it is assumed)
Clicking on Links now works.
Even better font matching.
Much improved memory usage (including fixing of all the
auto-deletion stuff for the collection classes.)
Finished Tasks as of Monday, July 25th
====================================
Resizing now works properly. You can drag the corner of the window
and the contents will do the right thing.
Fonts now look correct. All the italics, bold, and most font
families are supported. Some more minor font updates will be coming
later this week, but for the most part, it is looking good.
Images now function (try www.slashdot.com). There is some problem
with relative URL's not being handled correctly that should be fixed
by later on today.
Lots of little code cleanups.
Finished Tasks as of Monday, July 17th
====================================
Finish re-implementation of Qt signals
Re-write URL handling
Initial redraw bug (Grrrrr)
Fixed color implementation. Still needs some work for default colors
of table cells.
All network access was moved to using libwww.

ViewML Build Instructions
This project doesn't yet have the ever-present configure script that
automagically makes everything work. However, getting the thing to
build should be pretty easy, as the dependencies are fairly common
libraries.
For most of this stuff, you can get versions of the libraries below
that are needed from ftp://ftp.viewml.com/pub/viewml/dep
FLNX can be retrieved from CVS with the following settings:
export CVSROOT=:pserver:anoncvs at cvs.viewml.com:/usr/cvs
cvs login (password guest)
cvs co flnx
and Microwindows can be retrieved from CVS with the following settings:
export CVSROOT=:pserver:anoncvs at cvs.microwindows.org:/usr/cvs
cvs login (password guest)
cvs co microwin
General Dependencies:
1. STL. ViewML uses some of the container classes and string class to
simulate some of the Qt classes. Just about any version that comes
with any relatively new version of g++ should work.
2. PThreads. This should be around on any standard Linux system, and
probably is available for your platform too.
3. libwww. Standard on my RedHat system, you can get this from
http://www.w3c.org .. I have been using version 5.2.8. This libary
seems to need libmd5, which is present on most systems. If not, you
can get a copy from ftp://ftp.viewml.com/pub/viewml/dep
Dependencies for X-Windows:
1. FLTK built for your system. ViewML has been tested with version
1.0.7. FLTK distributions can be found at www.fltk.org.
2. imlib. Came on my RedHat box, version 1.9.8.1 You can get yours
from http://www.labs.redhat.com/imlib. You may also need libraries
for image decoding (libungif, libjpeg, libpng..). libungif and
libjpeg can be found on the ftp site
ftp://ftp.viewml.com/pub/viewml/dep
Dependencies For Microwindows/Nano-X
1. FLTK built for Nano-X. This library is different from the
general FLTK that can be gotten from www.fltk.org. You can get
this version from ftp://ftp.microwindows.org/pub/microwindows. Get
the file called "flnx-current.tar.gz" You can also get the latest
version of flnx from the CVS server at cvs.viewml.com
2. Microwindows, compiled with Nano-X running. You can get this from
ftp://ftp.microwindows.org/pub/microwindows. You need version
0.88patch1 (or later .. check the dates of the .tar.gz). You can
also get the latest microwindows sources from the CVS server at
cvs.microwindows.org
To Build:
There are now two ways to build.
******** BUILDING VIEWML: THE NEW WAY (Using configure) *************
--> The following was put in place by Jordan Crouse (jordanc at censoft.com). Please feel
free to bother him with any questions or complaints.
1. Use configure in the top directory:
Run configure in the normal manner. Aside from the usual passed in variables
(prefix, libdir, etc....) there are three new commands that you should be interested in.
Configure for X:
./configure --with-fltk=[FLTK dir] --host=[prefix]
Configure for Nano-X:
./configure --with-microwin=[Microwindows dir] ---with-fltk=[FLTK dir] --host=[prefix]
--with-fltk:
Specifies where your FLTK source code lives. This is required for all builds of ViewML, regardless
of the graphics engine
--with-microwin:
This specifies where your Nano-GUI code lives. If this is specified, the code will build with
Nano-X calls instead of X11 calls. If you build MicroWindows to work with xdrivers, you will also
need to specify the --with-xdrivers. If this is not specified, X11 is assumed.
--with-xdrivers:
This is only significant when using --with-microwin. If you have choosen to build MicroWindows with
underlying X11 driver support, this configures the system to build in the appropriate X11 drivers.
--host:
This specifies which host you would like to build for. Usually, you will specify the prefix for the
desired tool chain (for example, the MIPS linux toolchain has a prefix of mipsel-linux, so you would specify
--host=mipsel-linux to build with the MIPS toolset). If you don't specify this, the system will try to guess
the current system and build for it.
For all the other various commands, make sure that you pass the correct variables in.
The configure script was designed with the idea that all of the binaries, libraries and other
good stuff would be generally in the same prefix, so thats the primary variable we use to
find these files. That may or may not tie into your system, and I urge you to fix the configure.in
if you find any holes. Also, its not 100% complete, so if you see a test or file that we don't look for,
please do not be afraid to put it in.
2. Run make all in the top directory.
The configure script sets up a Makefile in the top directory, which in turn manages the building of the whole tree.
You will note that the makefile runs make with an alternate makefile called Makefile.new in each source directory. The
reason for this is that we wanted to keep the old Makefile system around for a while, so we had the best of both worlds.
If you still want to build in the old manner, read on....
****** BUILDING VIEWML: THE ORIGINAL WAY ********
1. Edit the following in src/Makefile:
For X:
_NANOX should be commented out.
FLTK should be set to the location of your built FLTK disctibution.
XLIBS should be set to the location of your X11 libraries.
IMLIBS should be set to the command that dumps your imlib libraries.
WWWLIBS should be set to the command that dumps your libwww libraries.
CFLAGS .. edit the `libwww-config --cflags` portion to point to the
correct script.
For Nano-X:
_NANOX should be uncommented and set to "1".
FLTK should be set to the location of your FLNX distribution.
NANOX should be set to the top level of your Microwindows distribution.
WWWLIBS should be set to the command that dumps your libwww libraries.
CFLAGS .. edit the `libwww-config --cflags` portion to point to the
correct script.
2. Depending on your compiler version, you may have to add --permissive
to the CFLAGS settings in the Makefile. If you see errors like:
Ansi C++ forbids ... you need this setting.
3. Run make depend (yes ... I know this sucks .. I want to get rid of
it too. Soon.)
4. Now type make in the src subdirectory.
5. Wait.
6. Run the viewml binary.

ViewML Browser
Please see the ViewML web site at www.viewml.com for the FAQ,
mailing list, news, screenshots, etc. If you are interested in
the development of the browser, please subscribe to the ViewML
development mailing list at the above web site.
Please see the file INSTALL for some minimal instructions on
getting the browser to build.
If you want to help, please check the file TODO for major tasks
that are uncompleted. Then ask around on the ViewML development
mailing list to make sure that no one else is working on what
you want to do.
For anonymous CVS access:
1. Set your CVSROOT as such:
export CVSROOT=:pserver:anoncvs at cvs.viewml.com:/usr/cvs
2. Run "cvs login" and use a password of "guest".
3. Run "cvs co viewml"
Some major caveats:
This software is in development. Things don't work well and sometimes
not at all. It *will* get better. Contribute, and it will get better
faster.
Some notable problems:
1. Scrollbars don't work.
